These are from the first weekend of the Vans US Open Surfing Competition at Huntington Beach, CA. I started taking pictures on Friday evening before the competition started as I'd just received my new Canon 400mm 2.8L II USM lens and needed to take it for a spin. It helped to practice with the lens as shooting at 560mm (I was using a 1.4EX III) meant I had to keep things very steady. I was shooting with the Canon 6D. It's a full frame camera so no crop factor, and very little noise on the images, despite shooting right up until sunset, at a high ISO. The practice helped as I worked out a few of the issues before having to get to work on the Saturday, surrounded by thousands of people (and lots of photographers all looking for the best spot to shoot)
